  • Star of Saugatuck – Enjoy a cruise on an authentic sternwheeler paddleboat onto beautiful Lake Michigan and experience our area from a totally different perspective.  Have an early dinner and then enjoy a truly spectacular sunset cruise  (runs in the summer months – 90 minute cruise). 
  • Mt. Baldhead – Hike up to the top of Mt. Baldhead for a breathtaking view over Lake Michigan
  • Krupka’s Blueberry Plantation – In season, stock up on fresh blueberry’s which you can pick yourself, or buy pre-packaged, a favorite at Sherwood Forest

  • Saugatuck Dune Ride – Just good fun! Ride the trail up the sand dune in an open-air vehicle, enjoy the view over Lake Michigan from the top and then learn about our buried town on your way back down the sand dune
  • Summerhouse Lavender Farm – You will feel like you are in France as you tour the stunning lavender gardens.  Be sure to visit their store and take home a touch of calming lavender (runs May through early October). 
  • Chain Link Ferry – Experience crossing the river from Saugatuck to Douglas on one of the last remaining chain link ferry’s in the USA (runs all summer)
  • Oxbow School of Art – Friday evenings during the summer season from 7:30 – 10 p.m.  Stroll the campus to enjoy art of many forms done by the participants including students, fellows, and MFA & Faculty Artists in Residence.  You can also participate in a live auction of student, staff, and faculty work (8pm Friday evenings)
  • Saugatuck State Park – This park has 2.5 miles of coastal dunes along Lake Michigan’s shoreline with dunes towering 200 feet high and a beach swimming area, this state park also is home to three endangered species. This is a must-see destination for any nature-lovers, hikers, or bird-watchers.
  • Root Beer Barrel – Enjoy a touch of local history as you enjoy a fabulous hot dog and root beer float at this authentic root beer barrel in Douglas.  There is even a veggie dog option!

Fast becoming known as a “foodie” haven with cookbook authors and award-winning chefs who live and work in this area.  “Eating local” is all the rage, but it’s much easier when you’re just a stone’s throw away from where food is grown. Long known as “the Art Coast of Michigan,” our creative roots go back 100 years to the day when The Art Institute of Chicago established its Ox-Bow School in Saugatuck. Today, dozens of working artists call it home, enriching our community with an appreciation of art that spills over into the many galleries and cultural events around our communities of Saugatuck/Douglas.  Whether strolling through our many art galleries, enjoying an art class or art fair, to experiencing performing arts at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts with revolving exhibits, live concerts, broadway shows and showings of independent films, art lovers are sure to delight in all that Saugatuck/Douglas has to offer.  Some of our favorites include:

A gallery of art displaying the talent and culture of Africa uses the Zulu word for “voices” to represent a powerful drive to create and express through the artistic process. Great Outdoors

Our rolling dunes, Lake Michigan beaches, winding waterways, and network of trails provide a natural playground for outdoor adventure and things to do in the Saugatuck/Douglas area.  For water enthusiasts, there are plenty of ways to enjoy freshwater sports, sailing, and fishing in Lake Michigan or Kalamazoo Lake.  Find an outfitter, charter a boat, or take a harbor tour. You can even try stand-up paddle surfing.  For the golf enthusiasts, be sure to experience Ravines, our stunning Arnold Palmer course.


Oval Beach
Celebrated around the world for its beautiful sweep of shoreline and backdrop of rolling dunes, this is the main beach in town and the most happening place to soak in the sun. Its impressive pedigree of awards (Condé Nast Traveler’s Top 25 Beaches in the World, National Geographic Traveler’s Top Freshwater Beaches in the USA, and MTV’s Top 5 Beaches in the USA) is proof of its status as a summertime favorite and natural beauty spot. Easy parking, concessions, and a picnic area will keep the whole group happy until the sun goes down.  The daily vehicle entrance fee is $10 (8am – 9pm). $50 for a season permit.

Douglas Beach
This small neighborhood beach offers prime real estate for watching the sunset. You’ll find a restroom and picnic area at the top of the hill and a quiet beach down below, tucked in between lakefront homes on each side.

Saugatuck Dunes State Park
Get back to nature in this state-owned park, featuring 2.5 miles of secluded beach and 200-foot tall wooded dunes. Four trails, ranging from 2.5 to 5.5 miles, offer a chance to explore dunes and shore on foot or cross-country skis.

Crane’s Orchard & Pie Pantry
Crane Orchards is one of the finest u-pick orchards in Michigan. With over 17 different varieties of apples, 10 varieties of peaches and sweet cherries for the discriminating u-picker to choose from, the scenery is breathtaking. The fall of 2002 saw the first corn maze for visitors to get lost in; there is a completely new and different maze design every year. It has 10 year-round taps and 12 seasonal and barreled-aged taps offering a wide variety of styles that are “true to style” or have a modern twist.  Their draft list features 22 craft beers, 2 hard ciders, and 14 wines, in addition to cocktails that feature Michigan, regional, and imported liquor options. Including a restaurant, the menu focuses on fresh food sourced locally and regionally with a seasonal menu, serving meat, vegetarian, and vegan dishes. Our restaurant has seats for 92 people, including 13 around the horseshoe bar. Enjoy weekly live music and a variety of events planned for the year, including monthly Beer School.

Saugatuck Brewing Company
As Saugatuck/Douglas’ oldest Craft Brewery; the Saugatuck Brewing Company (SBC) has been a leading producer in the Michigan Craft Beer Industry since brewing its first beer in 2005. The brewery, located conveniently on Blue Star Highway in Douglas, Michigan, boasts two tasting rooms and outdoor patio dining. The Pub features 16 taps, hard cider, and wine along with a full food menu including everything from unique entrees to shareable appetizers. Along with the Pub, SBC recently added on a second taproom dubbed “The Barrel Room,” including 15 additional taps. The Barrel Room is a laid-back tasting room where customers can enjoy a pint while playing a round of one of the many games featured, like shuffleboard, bumper pool, pinball, and more. Tours are offered of the brewery.  Enjoy live music on the weekends.

Virtue Cider
Virtue is a craft cider company launched in 2011 in Fennville, Michigan, by Gregory Hall, former brewmaster at Goose Island. Their mission is to make proper farmhouse ciders from local heirloom apples and employ traditional farmhouse production methods that include native and secondary fermentation, use of wild yeasts, and an expansive oak barrel-aging program. Tour Virtue’s two traditional cider houses, taste some samples or take home some bottles for yourself from their Bottle Shop.
